A: You Are, If You Have All the Information

You play a crucial role in the care of your person. You’re the one ensuring their needs are met, their health is monitored, and daily life is as normal as possible. Although you know, “if it’s to be it’s up to me!“,  you may wonder from time to time:
Who is in charge?

You are. But only if you have all the information you need to make informed decisions and ensure everyone else does as well.

Always be Gathering Info

You already know this part. Taking charge as a caregiver means gathering all necessary information about your person’s health and care needs, and inform yourself.

→ Medical history and current health status
→ Medications, including dosages and schedules
→ Allergies and dietary restrictions
→ Doctors’ contact information and appointment schedules
→ Insurance and financial information
Keeping this information organized and up-to-date keeps you in charge.

Build a Care Team

You don’t have to do everything alone. Building a care team of healthcare professionals, family members, and friends can will help ease the burden. Communication is key for the care team. Share information and updates regularly and coordinate schedules to avoid overlaps and gaps in care.

Decisions

You may will be called upon to make important decisions regarding your person’s care. In these situations, having all the necessary information and a support team makes all the difference.

Taking Care, of You!

I love the articles I read containing this statement. “Being a caregiver can be emotionally and physically demanding.” #duh! Don’t hesitate to ask for help from your care team or seek professional support if needed. Even with help you are still in charge. Be like your phone. When the battery is low, do the obvious. Re-charge!

Always gather the latest info so you remain the most informed person in the room. You make the significant difference in your person’s life. You are in charge. (did I mention that often enough?)

We obsess on this topic and that’s why we built simplifycaring.com. Gather info, organize it, retrieve it quickly when needed, stay on top of to-do’s, talk amongst yourselves with in-team notes. Safe, confidential, useful. For as long as you need it.
